Pathivara Temple : Myth
It is believed that local farmers lost hundreds of their sheep while grazing near where the temple is currently. The farmers had a dream where the goddess told them to perform ritualistic sacrifices and to make a shrine in her memory.
As the sacrifice was completed, the lost sheep came back. After this incident, it is believed that the ritual of offering sacrifices inside the temple started. The ex-Royal Family of Nepal is one of the devotees. To please the goddess, worshippers offer animal sacrifices, gold, and silver.
The Goddess Pathivara Devi is believed to fulfill every her worshipper’s cherished wishes, like sons for those without sons, and wealth for the poor.
Pathivara Devi is also one of the ‘Shakti Peeths’. Shakti Peethas are the places where Goddess Sati’s body part fell while Lord Shiva was carrying her dead body.

Visitors can also visit monasteries in Olangchung Gola and Lungchung. Every year the waterfall at Sawa and the pond at Timbung during autumn and spring are worth visiting. Also, this route provides views of the whole Kanchenjunga Range.
The view of beautiful gorges created by the silver-shining mountain range to the north from Pathibhara Hill is amazing.
How can you reach Pathibhara Devi Temple?
The journey to Pathibhara begins from Suketar, which is about 20 minutes away from Phungling Bazaar, and then a 1-2 hour drive from Kafle Pati. It is about 3-4 hours’ walk from Kafle Pati.
Suketar Airport (2480m) is the only airport in the Taplejung district with scheduled flights connecting Kathmandu and Biratnagar.
Before reaching Pathivara Devi Mandir, the route goes through Deuali, Ramitedanda, Chhatedhunga, Bhalugaunda, and Phedi.
