Shasta Groene’s Family Murder and Kidnapping-
The bodies of Brenda Groene, her boyfriend Mark McKenzie, and her son Slade Groene, were found by the authorities on May 16, 2005, in their home near Lake Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Shasta 8, and her brother Dylan 9, were two of Brenda’s children who were missing.
After seven weeks, on July 2, 2005, in the early morning, Shasta was seen with an unidentified man at a Coeur d’Alene Denny’s restaurant, when the restaurant’s manager, waitress, and two customers noticed Shasta they informed the police.
She was then brought to Kootenai Medical Center for treatment. Duncan, the serial killer was kept by Coeur d’Alene police due to a federal warrant and charges of kidnapping.
How did Shasta Groene’s family were murdered?
During an interview with police, Shasta stated that after killing her mother, her older brother, and her mother’s fiance, he kidnapper Shastha and her brother and went in the stolen Jeep Cherokee.
Shasta also described Dylan’s murder to investigators. Duncan remained adamant that his passing was an accident. Shasta initially heard a loud boom while she was standing on the opposite side of Duncan’s Jeep.
Shasta also told investigators how Dylan was murdered. Days after her brother’s Dylan death, Shasta claimed that Duncan threatened her with the option of being killed by gunshot or by strangulation.
Shasta chose the first option, and he wrapped a rope around her neck and pulled hard, suffocating her, but she managed to breathe and begged Joseph Edward Duncan to stop. Then, he asked if she would like to meet his mother, and drove her towards Coeur d’Alene at the Denny’s restaurant from where Shasta was rescued.

Shasta Groene currently resides in Boise, Idaho, with her husband, Michael, and family, as per the data of 2023. She seems to be unemployed and spends all of her time at home. She spends most of the time caring for the kids.
Shasta and her husband are blessed with four sons who are under seven years old. Also, as per the research, it was reported that the couple welcomed their fifth child in 2022.
